The most recent news has shown that destructive hacking is consequence free when done by AI, no major corporation who has allowed their models to go out and cause harm has been held accountable.
From this we can only conclude that you can be a black hat as long as an AI with tool access does it.
I have been chipping away at a scan and observation kit for some time, it is nowhere near as good as any built in tool for Kali, but it is for me to learn with and slowly build out my knowledge.
The image of the hacker, with in a hoodie and sunglasses, tapping away at a keyboard to hack into systems is cool, it’s visual, but damn is it wrong.
Cherrytree and scripts, that is modern hacking. It’s not glamourous, or cool, and there is something a bit sad that hacking has become so “business” like. I guess it happenes to every fringe thing ones it becomes mainstream (or proffitable). The romantic image of the hacker might be dead, but the task remains. It is still up to all of us with an interest to penetrate, destroy, vandalise, test, and improve the world around us.
The first step to any good hack is information gathering and scouting. I find OSINT boring, and learning to be a con man is hard. But these are necessary tools, and it is the one thing we as hackers will need now, more than ever. As our bots become more powerfull, as our agents can pivot and chain vulnerabilities faster than ever, our job will increasingly be to set them up for success.
If you can gather information, talk to people, then you can set your attacks up for great success.
Writing scripts, providing the agents with novel or uncommon solutions will remain a part of hacking. But honestly if you want a DIY hacking course, go out to a bar and get someone to buy you a drink. Learn who is who, make them think you are their friend, invest as little of your own resources as possible. Build a Cherrytree of all the people, their jobs, hobbies, wants, hopes and dreams. Profile and map out the people.
It may not come natural, it may be boring and exhausting to many of us. But the benefits to your hacking skills are immense.
